TESTIMONIALS

"Kate helped us create the experience we wanted for our guests at Ginger and Baker.

Over the course of many weeks, I had a list of 42 separate projects including sourcing Colorado art and photography, creating original art with “found items” from the historic building, and sourcing local craftsmen and artists who could take wood, metal and other materials from the renovation of the building and turn them into specific pieces of furniture and art.

We looked at so much photography!  She created to-scale images of walls and art pieces for me so I could really “see” the outcome.  She sourced artists and delivered historic items to them to incorporate into original art.  She suggested the use of wood pieces as the canvas for original photography which was a perfect effect.  She worked with local metal fabricators to hang 2250 pounds of steel from their shop ceiling so we could create a one-of-a-kind chandelier out of the original poured-metal wheels that moved grain throughout the mill.  She shopped at antique stores to find old clocks and old dough bowls to add special character to the walls.  She was invaluable to the project.

I know it can be challenging for the designer when the customer holds a strong view of the desired outcome.  I “knew what I wanted.”  Kate was great at taking all of my ideas and concepts; turning them into specific drawings, dimensions, artists and materials.  She improved many pieces, suggested others and managed the process that included numerous additional vendors and a very specific timeline.  Every person she brought to the project was a talented professional who added meaningfully to our goals.

The building incorporates over 20,000 square feet of combined historic and modern construction.  The complexity of the project pulled me in many directions.  Kate worked independently, constantly stayed in touch, brought forward specific ideas and suggestions and ensured every decision was implemented.  The sum of all the pieces creates a special environment that honors the history of the building and makes our guests feel welcome and comfortable.

I was fortunate to have met Kate and am thrilled with the outcome.  She is talented, driven and easy to work with.  She helped my vision come to life and made it even better with her ideas and creativity."

"Kate had great vision for our space that ultimately made it feel bigger than it was – she was able to envision new lighting where it didn't exist before that made a huge impact to that space.  She always worked well within our budget and never pushed us to spend more than we were comfortable with.  It was important to her that we find items that were well-made and valuable, without breaking the bank.
Kate was so easy to work with – she developed a quick understanding of our aesthetic and did a great job keeping that in mind while also encouraging us to think outside the box (which was very important for two type A, beige-loving, minimalists).  She totally saved us with the concept of our kitchen island...we were terrified to make the wrong decision for such a huge custom piece and she was able to assist us in making sure it was the right size (so that it was functional but also fit well within the space that we had) and also visually appealing with materials that would be functional, durable and beautiful.  She even helped pick out the seating!
Kate was able to seamlessly work with and incorporate items and furniture that we already had as we were also adding new elements and pieces.  When putting together the final touches, she did an amazing job of finding items stored in our basement and putting them in a new place or creating something new (Old skis are now a super functional coat rack!) with them.  It felt good to recycle things we had that meant something to us and Kate was always willing to do that.”

"I’d been wanting to update the interior look of our townhome for quite some time, but as my talents lie in other areas, I knew I’d need substantial help in order to achieve aesthetically pleasing results.  A friend had recommended Kate as someone with a natural ability to convert lackluster places into charming spaces so I met Kate in her home for a consultation.  I was immediately impressed with my surroundings so I decided to enlist her services.
I had no idea how I wanted the finished product to look so Kate started off by soliciting my opinion on pictures, paint colors, accessories, and general decorating styles - she even entertained my request for comfy, “binge watching” furniture.  From there she formulated a vision that I would soon discover was extremely well suited to our taste and lifestyle.
Our budget was somewhat limited, so Kate beautifully repurposed and incorporated some of our existing furniture and art pieces, and integrated many cherished antiques and heirlooms I’d collected over the years. She went so far as to design and build a custom display ladder for the quilts my grandmother had made me throughout my life.  The quilt display has become a favorite feature of mine, as well as our guests.
Kate transformed our home from an outdated, somewhat dreary atmosphere, with random and mismatched objects ill-placed throughout, to a sophisticated, cheerful, modern, comfortable, cohesive, space that I’m proud to showcase.  My immediate family came to visit not long after the redesign was complete and remarked that our place 'looked like it should be in a design magazine'.  Kate’s work in our home has inspired us to strive towards some larger scale remodel projects and I will absolutely be enlisting her services again."

“My husband and I adore our renovated 1928 Craftsman Farmhouse. The original yellow pine flooring and historical features remain and are rare finds. The interior decor has been a mix of unique pieces and antique accessories purchased over the years. While I love each piece individually the result was quite a mishmash of items that really did not work together the way I envisioned.

Having visited the Ginger and Baker Restaurant in Fort Collins and seeing firsthand Kate’s imaginative contributions to their interior decor I knew she could provide some helpful insight into my dilemma. Her dedication to details and passion for design helped transform the venue into a very special place.

I’ve never desired an interior that resembles a showcase home. We truly live in our home and prefer it to be comfortable, yet functional. My budget was set where I thought minor improvements could be addressed. I had ideas for specific areas but no true vision of a final result. After sitting down with Kate and discussing where my focuses were, I felt confident she was receptive and truly listened to my concerns, hesitations, and desires. She also brought forward suggestions for areas I had not considered which, in the end, made such a huge difference.

By switching out a couple of ceiling light fixtures in my main living space it now conveys a warmer, more rustic feel I had been seeking. I came to fully trust her decision making when choices between fabrics, texture, and style made me hesitate. The chairs she suggested we have reupholstered are now beautifully transformed. I simply love them.

In order to conceal an unsightly AC unit in our bedroom Kate devised the idea of covering it with a removable custom-built wood pallet box that is well-constructed, artistic, and functional. It adds depth and texture to the room in a way I never imagined! Thanks to her careful research and time my budget went so much further than I ever imagined.

Working with Kate has been so very rewarding and I now feel more confident to move forward with making interior changes on my own thanks to her. Our home feels more like home than ever."
